Wednesday 24 April 2019. The Cairns Amateurs black tie ball is back and in a big way with
details unveiled this evening to a newly recruited group of local Carnival ambassadors
comprising social media influencers, former Fashions on the Field winners and spring racing
Cairns Amateurs Carnival president, Ross Moller welcomed guests to the intimate cocktail
soiree at Ochre Restaurant to engage support for the city’s only remaining, under the stars,
black tie event now on sale.
According to Mr Moller, in 2019, the ANZ Cairns Amateurs Ball will up its ante on black tie
theming as a sparkling, masquerade affair.
“Last year’s Ball really lifted the bar and with the confidence of excellent guest feedback we
are adding contemporary flair to an event steeped in rich tradition.
“While we still have a loyal group of ball goers stretching back to the enormously popular
Tobruk pool days our committee is mindful the event remains current, sustainable and full
of unexpected surprise,” Mr Moller said.
Taking place from 6.30pm to midnight on Friday, 13 September on the Cairns Esplanade’s
Eastern Event Lawn, the gala event will, as per long standing tradition, be attended by
Governor Paul de Jersey signalling the start of a fabulous party.
This year organisers have upped the entertainment value with a non-stop program that will
be revealed closer to the event seeing the Cairns social set rub shoulders with the who’s
who of racing royalty from the Far North and beyond.
In between ACE DJ, will keep the dance floor pumping but not before everyone has had the
chance to sit down and enjoy a sumptuous feast of pre-dinner canapés followed by fresh
seafood, Mediterranean and Asian-inspired gourmet delights, decadent desserts, and free-
flowing premium beverages from the award winning crew at Ochre Catering.
In 2019, the Ball will be staged for the third year running, within a glamorous marquee
situated on the Eastern Event Lawn of Cairns’ pristine Esplanade, with a stunning fireworks
display lighting up the calm waters of Trinity Inlet to conclude a truly spectacular evening.
Mr Moller said hosting the Ball at the exciting waterfront venue firmly positions the city at
the epicentre of social activity, while the event’s masquerade theming provides that little bit
of extra sparkle.
Another special element of this year’s Ball is its platform partnership with local charity
COUCH including a special fundraising auction that will be held throughout during the
“This year we are proudly supporting COUCH in the construction of its Health Wellness
Centre with proceeds directly benefiting this worthy cause founded by one of our most
passionate former members, Charles Woodward and family,” he said.
Local Carnival Ambassadors include Kristy Vallely, Maddi Wright and Louise Struber.
